Presence is a key feature in Skype for Business that shows co-workers your status. Skype for Business manages this for you, although it is possible to override this manually.
Skype for Business will base your status on your current activity, for example if you are in a call you will be shown as busy. Your status is also based on your current outlook calendar schedule, so if you are in a meeting you will be shown as busy.
If you have out of office messages set in Outlook, a small star will be shown next to your name in Skype for Business. By default, Skype for Business will put you to away after 5 minutes of inactivity on the computer.
Presence status will also show in Outlook, Office 365, SharePoint, and Microsoft Dynamics. This means that you can see the presence status of users in these applications without using the Skype for Business client. You will also be able to initiate calls, instant messages and videos to users directly from these applications.
